WETUMPKA, Ala. (WAKA) — Hundreds of people turned out Friday and Saturday for Wetumpka’s fourth annual Oktoberfest in the city’s downtown district.

The event, hosted by the Oktoberfest planning committee, began Friday evening with the traditional tapping of the keg. Festivities continued Saturday morning, with residents and their pets gathering for socializing, beer tasting and food from a variety of vendors, including deep-fried pickles.

Live music, shopping and children’s games were offered throughout the day. Grumpy Dog, a local restaurant, also hosted a hot dog eating contest that drew plenty of attention from festivalgoers.

Organizers said the annual event has quickly become a favorite tradition in Wetumpka.
