As an advocate for affordable housing for 36 years, I am having heartburn over some aspects of the Lumberyard housing project out by the AABC.
Heartburn not over the expense of the project (enormous) or location on an already maxed out Highway 82 but because of the policy direction on key issues such as who gets to live there, the absence of ownership opportunities, the assignment of management to a venture capital operation and the traffic generation.
That I might not vote for the bonds required to build the project comes as a surprise to myself, given that I have voted for and worked in the field bringing voters to the polls in support of housing for every housing issue I can remember including Burlingame (twice), the Real Estate Transfer Tax to fund housing every time it was offered o
