Controversy surrounds Mohsin Naqvi, the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), following the Asia Cup final between India and Pakistan. This incident has drawn significant attention, marking a turbulent period for Naqvi, who has been in the spotlight for various off-field issues recently.

After India triumphed over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final, the post-match ceremony descended into chaos. The Indian team refused to accept their trophy and medals from Naqvi, citing his anti-India remarks and provocative stance. Despite attempts by the ACC to appoint a neutral presenter, Naqvi blocked these efforts and left the stadium with the trophy and medals, denying the Indian players and fans a traditional celebration. The Indian players briefly celebrated with their families but without the trophy, leading to widespread outrage.

In response to the incident, officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced plans to formally protest Naqvi's actions at the upcoming ICC conference in November, viewing the situation as a serious breach of protocol.

The controversy escalated with Naqvi's statements on social media. He reacted to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's post, which celebrated India's victory and referenced the government's response to a recent terror attack. Naqvi retorted, "If war was your measure of pride, history already records your humiliating defeats at Pakistan’s hands. No cricket match can rewrite that truth. Dragging war into sport only exposes desperation and disgraces the very spirit of the game."

Additionally, Naqvi shared a video that juxtaposed Cristiano Ronaldo’s celebration with imagery of jets crashing, which many interpreted as a taunt towards India’s claims during a military operation. Tensions further escalated when the PCB threatened to withdraw from the tournament after India’s players refused to shake hands with their Pakistani counterparts. They also delayed a match against the UAE by an hour before reaching a resolution through backchannel discussions with the ICC.

Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian captain, criticized Naqvi's behavior, calling it “childish” and expressing disbelief that a champion team could be denied its trophy in such a manner. The incident, including footage of Naqvi leaving with the trophy, has gone viral, intensifying scrutiny and backlash against him.
