Tina Turner has been immortalised with a brand new statue in her home town of Brownsville, Tennessee, but the bizarre likeness has outraged the late hitmaker’s fans.
Atlanta-based artist Fred Ajanogha created the new statue, which was unveiled at Carver High School on Sunday as part of the annual Tina Turner Heritage Day celebrations.
Turner, who died in 2023 aged 83, attended the school when she was still “Anna Mae Bullock”.
The future superstar did not adopt her famous stage name until meeting Ike Turner and beginning her career in 1960.
The statue shows Turner at the height of her 80s career success with her best known look: giant hair and a short dress.
It was during this era that Turner released her seminal Private Dancer album, which is often ranked as one the decade’s best albu
