Dubai, Sep 29: In an unprecedented scene in international cricket, India’s Asia Cup-winning team last night refused to accept the winners’ trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president and Pakistan Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, but captain Suryakumar Yadav clarified there were no instructions from the BCCI and the call was taken solely by the players.

“No one told us to do this. We took this call on the ground,” Suryakumar said, distancing the decision from any official communication between the BCCI and the ACC. “This is one thing which I have never seen since I started playing and following cricket — that a champion team is denied a trophy. That too a hard-earned one, not something we got easily.”
