Modi Writes Foreword for Giorgia Meloni's Memoir
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has penned the foreword for the Indian edition of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's autobiography, titled "I Am Giorgia — My Roots, My Principles." This edition is set to be launched soon. Modi referred to the book as "her Mann Ki Baat," drawing a parallel between Meloni's personal narrative and his own approach to connecting with the public.
In his foreword, Modi expressed his "great honour" in contributing to the memoir, stating it was done with "respect, admiration, and friendship" for Meloni. He described her as a "patriot and outstanding contemporary leader." Reflecting on his experiences with global leaders over the past 11 years, Modi noted that personal stories often reveal universal truths, a theme he sees in Meloni's life and leadership. He wrote, "Prime Minister Meloni's life and leadership remind us of these timeless truths… It will be well received in India as a refreshing story of an outstanding contemporary political leader and a patriot."
Modi highlighted shared values between India and Italy, praising Meloni's commitment to cultural heritage and equality. Originally published in 2021 while Meloni was in opposition, the memoir has become a bestseller. It recounts her personal struggles, including facing challenges as an unmarried mother and campaigning while pregnant, emphasizing themes of identity, resilience, and national pride.
The camaraderie between Modi and Meloni has garnered public attention, especially following her visit to India in 2023, which formalized the growing India-Italy Strategic Partnership. Modi lauded Meloni for defending "motherhood, national identity, and tradition," underscoring these shared values as a foundation for their countries' relationship. The book offers an in-depth look at Meloni's life, including her childhood and family bonds, marking a significant moment in her political journey.
