BURKE, Va. — A police officer shot a man who armed himself with a gun, chainsaws, an ax and a blowtorch late Sunday night.

Around 10:13 p.m. Sunday, Fairfax County Police responded to a report of a person in crisis on 9700 block of Church Way in Burke involving weapons. When police arrived on the scene, they found a man outside of his home. They quickly deployed crisis intervention trained officers and co-responder units to begin negotiations, but throughout the conversations, the man pulled out different weapons.

The gun, chainsaws, ax and blowtorch were all presented during these negotiations. Police then threw two non-lethal beanbag objects at the man. Finally, one officer shot him in the leg. He was brought to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
