New Delhi: Sridhar Vembu is the Chief Scientist at Zoho, a company that was founded in 1996 in an apartment in Chennai with the vision of making world-class technologies for companies. The privately held company is operated similar to a public sector undertaking, with a focus on the quality of craftsmanship, with the upper management not drawing outrageous salaries. Vembu was born in 1968 to a middle-class family in a village in Tamil Nadu, and earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 1989, then moved to the United States where he obtained his MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.
Vembu began his career at Qualcomm in San Diego as a wireless engineer, followed by a stint in the Bay Area of San Franci
