Despite the fact that Team Europe came away retaining the Ryder Cup in 2025, it was a weekend full of abuse for Rory McIlroy and his wife, Erica.

Much of it, per reports from Bethpage Black, was horrible verbal abuse -- we saw McIlroy yell for fans to "shut the [expletive] up" at one point -- but it got taken to another level when a fan threw a cup of beer that hit Erica.

The Rory and his European teammates addressed the abusive behavior after the win.

"Erica is fine," Rory said. "She's a very, very strong woman. She handled everything this week with class and poise and dignity like she always has, and I love her. We're going to have a good time celebrating tonight."

Justin Rose noted that the beer throwing incident wasn't "brought to the team room" as the competition went on.

"That says a lot about the strength of Erica and everybody on this team," he added.

And Shane Lowry added this: "I was out there for two days with Erica McIlroy, and the amount of abuse that she received was astonishing and the way she was out there supporting her husband and supporting her team was unbelievable and kudos to her for that."

Why did Ryder Cup fans taunt Rory Mcilroy with Amanda Balionis chants?

There were unsubstantiated rumors about McIlroy and the reporter amid news of Erica and Rory getting divorced, which ultimately didn't happen.

NOTE: We corrected the name of Rory's wife and apologize for the error.
