Mumbai: A nationwide analysis of 3.9 lakh lipid profile tests by Metropolis Healthcare indicates that one in four Indians may be at risk of cardiovascular disease, with low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) — or “good cholesterol” — emerging as the most common abnormality.

According to the findings, cholesterol irregularities are no longer confined to older or obese individuals. Nearly 60 per cent of tests were conducted among those aged 31–60 years, a group that showed notably high cholesterol and triglyceride abnormalities.

Alarmingly, younger adults are also affected — over one in three individuals aged 19–30 years exhibited low HDL levels , while nearly 17 per cent recorded borderline high cholesterol.
