JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — State Police say two children and a horse died in a crash Sunday night in Northumberland County.

A car driven by John Koperna from Pottsville slammed into the back of a horse-drawn buggy on Route 225 in Jackson Township.

There were six people in the buggy. One child, a 7-year-old girl, died at the scene, and a 9-year-old boy died at the hospital. Everyone else who was in the buggy has serious injuries.

State Police say the driver of the car said he fell asleep at the wheel just before the crash.
