Vancouver City Hall is bracing for major cuts.

Mayor Ken Sim and his ABC allies are looking to slash about $100 million from the city’s $2.24 billion operating budget — and potentially hundreds of jobs — in the hopes of providing relief to taxpayers and improving efficiency.

But their rivals are raising alarms about what they say could be a devastating erosion of the services Vancouverites rely on.

The debate comes as Vancouver enters the final months of what is shaping up to be an especially politicized budgeting process, the final one before next October’s municipal election.
