Some State Fair corn dogs have been recalled

More than 50 million pounds of frozen corn dog and sausage products have been recalled because they may be contaminated with pieces of wood.

The Hillshire Brand Company, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, issued a voluntary recall on Sept. 27 for more than two dozen products sold under its State Fair and Jimmy Dean brands, according to a recall notice from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The affected products include corn dogs on a stick sold under the State Fair brand and pancakes and sausages on a stick sold under the Jimmy Dean brand. The items were produced between March 17 and Sept. 26 and sold online and at retailers nationwide.

Tyson Foods said in a statement that it issued the recall "out of an abundance of caution" and no other State Fair or Jimmy Dean brand products are impacted.

Which corn dogs, pancakes and sausages have been recalled?

The products that have been recalled have establishment number "EST-582" or "P-894" printed on the packaging. They can also be identified by their use by/sell by dates. See the full list:

5 injuries reported from recalled corn dogs, pancakes and sausages

According to the recall notice, the affected products may be contaminated with pieces of wood embedded in the batter.

The Hillshire Brands Company received consumer complaints, including five reports of injuries from the products. After investigating, the company believes wooden sticks entered the production process prior to the products being battered.

The items were sold online and at retail and food service locations nationwide. They were also sold to school districts and Department of Defense facilities, according to the recall notice.

Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare provider.

What to do if you have the recalled products

Consumers who have the affected items should not consume them. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
