BRIDGETON — Police are investigating a stabbing that happened early Sunday morning in the 100 block of Marion Street.

Officers responded at 2:35 a.m. and found a 32-year-old city man with multiple injuries, including a laceration to the back of the head and visible facial trauma, police said.

The victim told police he was alone outside his home about 2 a.m. when he was approached from behind and struck several times by an unknown male.

The suspect was last seen fleeing south through an alley behind the home, police said Monday in a news release. Nothing was reported stolen. Bridgeton EMS transported the victim to Inspira Medical Center Vineland.

Police canvassed the area but did not find the suspect.
