Scientists in Argentina have discovered a new species of dinosaur they believe could be at least 70 million years old.

The Joaquinraptor was discovered in 2019 in Patagonia, the southern tip of South America , which is shared with Argentina and Chile, according to a study published in Nature Communications on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

A research team found part of the animal’s skull and jaw, in addition to other body parts.

Scientists said the length of the dinosaur’s leg was about 23 feet long and weighed over 2,000 pounds. Though the dinosaur was considered sexually mature, it was likely somatically immature, meaning it could’ve grown to be bigger.
