A Greenville County Sheriff's deputy is on paid leave after shooting a man on Sept. 28.

Police responded to a disturbance call at 12:50 p.m., about a man trespassing on a vacant property on Stegall Circle near White Horse Road, according to Greenville County Sheriff's Office Lt. Ryan Flood.

During an encounter with officers, Flood said the man armed himself, which prompted a deputy to fire his weapon, striking the man. Police did not identify the type of weapon.

The man was taken to the Greenville County Memorial Hospital where he died.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division will investigate the shooting.

The shooting is the sixth for the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office in 2025. There were seven such shootings involving deputes 2024.
