Bangladesh’s Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday claimed that the recent unrest in Khagrachhari district is being fuelled by “external influences, including India or fascist elements."
The unrest began in the district when tribal people protested the alleged gang rape of an Indigenous schoolgirl by setting up roadblocks and burning tyres, which sparked the violence. On Sunday, clashes broke out between the indigenous tribes and the Bengali settler community, resulting in at least three deaths and dozens of injuries, including to army and police personnel, TheReportLive reported.
