STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— It was a busy, spaced out weekend of racing for Staten Island’s cross country programs, as both CHSAA and PSAL teams competed at meets across New York and New Jersey.
Starting with the boys’ highlights, McKee/Staten Island Tech and St. Joseph by-the-Sea both traveled to the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational, where Tech’s Simon Saffayeh and Sea’s Adam Vitale continued their stellar seasons.
Saffayeh added another first-place finish to his season resume, winning the Boys Varsity C 5K race in 15:31.40—nearly 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up—and leading the Seagulls to a second-place team finish. He was backed by teammates Adam Zarrilli (ninth, 16:18.60) and Scott Kelly (11th, 16:27.80), as the Tech trio continued to click.
