SOUTH AFRICA have been stripped three points for fielding an ineligible player in a World Cup qualifier.

That led to Hugo Broos's side dropping to second place in their group.

Bafana Bafana played midfielder Teboho Mokoena in the 2-0 win over Lesotho in March.

That was while Mokoena was suspended after picking up a second yellow card.

Now Fifa's disciplinary committee has confirmed the result has been switched to a 3-0 win for Lesotho, in line with competition rules.

South Africa had been top of their group, three points clear of Benin and a further three in front of Nigeria, with two games left to play next month.

But the changed result means a negative change of five goals in addition to the points.
