Rio Ferdinand says he ‘can’t believe’ Mikel Arteta has dropped Myles Lewis-Skelly following his impressive breakout season at Arsenal.

Lewis-Skelly only made his Arsenal debut last September but ended the 2024-25 campaign as one of the most important players in Arteta’s squad.

The 19-year-old, who can play as a left-back or in midfield, helped Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title and reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

His performances in the quarter-final victory over Real Madrid were particularly impressive, with Jamie Carragher comparing the teenager to Wayne Rooney after the first leg.

Carragher and fellow pundit Gary Neville both named Lewis-Skelly as their Young Player of the Season following his exploits in north London, which culminated in his first England
