Rape and sexual assault can leave survivors isolated and unsure about where to turn.

That’s where NHS Scotland’s sexual assault response coordination service (SARCS) comes in.

It’s a free self-referral service that aims to help by arranging support in the days following a rape or sexual assault for those who are not ready or unsure about going to the police.

Since the initiative was introduced in 2022, SARCS has worked to provide compassionate care for those who need it, treating more than 3,000 referrals to date with dignity and respect.

Anyone aged 16 and over who has experienced rape or sexual assault within the past seven days can self-refer by calling the phone service on 0800 148 88 88, all day, every day.
