The U.S. Department of Education is looking into allegations that a Fairfax County school social worker helped students access abortion care in 2021.

The department said this week that it has “initiated enforcement action” against the school district and requested information on district policies and whether any federal funds were used for “sensitive medical services, including abortion-related referrals or procedures.” The department warned federal funding could be at risk if Fairfax does not provide the information by Oct. 17.
