LINCOLNTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – The South Fork Volunteer Fire Department is now under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for possible embezzlement. This comes just weeks after the department was placed on notice by the fire marshal for slow response times and missing reports.

It’s a story we’ve been following for months after firefighters threatened to walk off the job last month, citing low morale and no oversight or performance evaluation of the chief.

The fire marshal had sent a notice after quarterly reports were not filed, and response times were too slow.

In July, two people died in a Lincolton house fire. The fire marshal said the 16-minute response to it was too slow. We’re told the department was late due to a lack of certified drivers for the trucks.
