QUÉBEC – Patrik Laine and Alexandre Carrier scored second-period goals two minutes and 41 seconds apart to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 5-0 NHL pre-season victory over the Ottawa Senators at the Videotron Centre on Tuesday night.

Oliver Kapanen, Lane Hutson and Kirby Dach also scored for the Canadiens, who led 1-0 after the first period and 3-0 heading into the third. Brendan Gallagher chipped in with three assists, while Alex Newhook and Ivan Demidov added two helpers apiece.

Jakub Dobes made 16 saves to post the shutout for the Canadiens, who went 3-for-10 on the power play. The Senators, who took 102 minutes in penalties, went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

Leevi Merilainen stopped 18 of the 23 shots directed at the Senators’ net.
