University of Cincinnati students and neighbors gathered for a National Night Out event in Bellevue Park with live music and free food.

Earlier this year, students and recent graduates living around UC's campus reported incidents of stolen cars and armed home break-ins to police. Advertisement

"Not only did all that happen, someone tried to break into our apartment too," said Sam Youngquist, a recent UC graduate. "It's hard and scary because, realistically, I couldn't protect myself against that."

The Cincinnati Fire Department showcased their trucks, while officers grilled and served food to foster positive connections. This marks the second year the UC Police Department held the event.
