A Gaston County teacher, who allegedly posted a derogatory comment on Facebook about conservative activist Charlie Kirk after his death, was suspended by the school district after her comment went viral.

On Sept. 11, the Gaston County Board of Education announced that it was reviewing an "insensitive and inappropriate" comment made by a school district employee.

While the school district did not name the employee, Holly Ackerman, a teacher at Webb Street School, wrote in a Facebook comment that she questioned why people were mourning Kirk's death. Her comment was shared widely in Gaston County Facebook groups, with many calling for her firing.

Ackerman could not be reached for comment.
