GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Two facilities assisting homeless veterans in Green Bay and Chippewa Falls are now closed, as of Tuesday, because their funding has officially run out.
Back in July, residents of those facilities would have had to find a new place to stay.
The Veterans Housing and Recovery Program’s third location in Union Grove remains open, with some of the residents affected by the closures opting to move there.
According to the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the program was expected to run a deficit of around $3 million through 2027.
And while Governor Evers did include $1.9 million for the program in his proposed budget this year, that funding was cut by Republicans as they worked to put together their version, which was also subject to compromise.
