BLACKSBURG — The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors approved the addition of $229.2 million to the university’s athletic department funding over the next four fiscal years in a 13-1 vote Tuesday morning in a virtual meeting.
The funding plan calls for $186.6 million to be added in incremental operating expenses and $42.6 million in one-time expenses over four years.
“The Board’s assignment was clear: increase funding to athletics and increase it now,” said Amy Sebring, the university’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. “They’ve worked to find a path that will allow us to do that, but make no mistake, it was a heavy lift.”
