The New York Yankees fans were furious with Aaron Boone during the team’s ugly July and August stretch, when sloppy play and poor pitching nearly ended their season. But a strong September run seemed to calm things down as New York fought back to grab a Wild Card spot.

However, that all disappeared on Tuesday night. The frustration came back after the Yankees dropped Game 1 of the Wild Card series to the Red Sox, 3-1, and fans are once again calling for Boone’s firing.

The Yankees started well when Anthony Volpe hit a solo homer in the second inning off Garrett Crochet. But that was the only offense they could produce. Crochet settled in, retiring 17 straight batters and finishing with 11 strikeouts over 7 2/3 innings.
