A couple died after suffering critical injuries in a mysterious blast at their house in the Hassan district of Karnataka Monday night. While the police investigate the cause of the blast, it is suspected that raw materials for crackers were present in the house at Alur taluk.

Kavya, 28, and her husband Sudarshan, 32, were taken to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for treatment and passed away Tuesday evening.

Hassan Superintendent of Police Mohammed Sujeetha M S addressed the media Tuesday, confirming that a case was registered at the Alur police station Monday based on a complaint filed by Mohan Kumar, Sudarshan’s father.

According to Kumar’s statement, the explosion occurred around 8.30 pm Monday in a passage near the washroom area, which adjoins the compound at the rear of the house.
