SOUTH ORANGE – The loose ball seemed destined to carom out of bounds. Budd Clark had other ideas, flying up the sideline and diving head-first to save it.
Clark landed against the padded wall of Seton Hall basketball’s practice gym as a scrum ensued for possession. By the time backcourt mate AJ Staton-McCray corralled the ball Clark was standing over him, lifting him off the hardwood the instant the whistle blew.
“I’d do anything for my teammates,” Clark said about the sequence afterward.
The junior point guard did anything and everything during Tuesday’s practice. He ran the offense with pace and precision. He forced turnover after turnover on defense. And, to head coach Shaheen Holloway’s delight, he talked up a storm – calling out directions and encouragement.
