Two decades ago, Joe Frost was sitting at a seafood restaurant on Bali's Jimbaran Bay and watching the sky turn pink as the sun set over the water.
The 20-year-old was joined by 18 others who had just returned from a day of sightseeing.
They were part of a larger group of about 50 people from Newcastle who had been holidaying on the island.
As they waited for their meals, they heard a blast towards the beach.
"Someone at the table said it might have been a gas bottle exploding," Mr Frost recalled.
Seconds later, a second explosion ripped through the restaurant.
The bomb detonated metres from Mr Frost's table and threw him into the sand.
"I'd been gripping my chair and then I was in the sand," he said.
"The screaming in my ears was so loud that the rest of the world was really quiet
