The prospect of a US Government shutdown is daunting, namely because the government is one of the biggest entities in the world, with a massive budget, immense military, and is the nation's largest employer and landowner. ‌

But the latest in the saga of Trump's administration means a shutdown has become a reality after the US President and Congress failed to strike an agreement to keep government programmes and services running by October 1. ‌

As a result, roughly 750,000 federal workers are expected to be furloughed, with some potentially fired by the Trump administration. This is the first time in nearly seven years the US Government has shut down. ‌

A shutdown of the federal government means that all non-essential functions of government are frozen,
