Russian President Vladimir Putin is likely to visit India on December 5–6 for the 23rd India-Russia Summit, marking his first trip to New Delhi since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in February 2022.
The Kremlin had earlier confirmed that Putin had accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India in May, though the two sides had not finalised the date. News of his December visit comes after PM Modi met the Russian President on September 1 in Tianjin, China, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
Putin’s visit carries significant weight amid shifting global dynamics. India’s relations with the United States have faced strain, while its ties with Russia and China have deepened.
