PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi has apologised to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the controversy that erupted after the Asia Cup 2025 final on September 28. However, he has refused to return the trophy and medals to the Indian team. During an Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on September 30, Naqvi expressed regret over how the post-match events unfolded, acknowledging that they should not have escalated as they did.

The incident began when the Indian players, led by Suryakumar Yadav, declined to accept the trophy and medals directly from Naqvi during the presentation ceremony. This led to Naqvi calling off the ceremony and instructing ACC officials to remove the trophy and medals from the field, preventing the Indian team from celebrating their victory.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla strongly criticised Naqvi's actions, stating that the Asia Cup trophy belongs to the ACC and not to any individual. He emphasised that the trophy should have been officially handed over to the Indian team immediately after the match. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia also condemned Naqvi's behaviour, stating, "We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision. This does not give him the right to take the trophy and the medals with him. It is extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike. We hope the trophy and medals will be returned to India as soon as possible."

Despite the apology, Naqvi has maintained that if India wants the trophy, the captain must personally travel to Dubai to collect it. The BCCI has dismissed this demand, questioning why the Indian captain should have to make the trip when there was no such requirement during the final. The ongoing dispute highlights the tensions between the two cricket boards following the Asia Cup.

The controversy began during the group stage match between India and Pakistan, where Indian players dedicated their win to the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and the Indian Armed Forces. The final match saw visible tensions, including verbal clashes and provocative gestures from players on both sides, culminating in the controversial trophy presentation.
