Energy giant British Gas has launched new cost of living support payments for its struggling customers.

Grants of up to £2,000 could be available for households who are in debt and have fallen behind with payments.

The company is targeting some of its most vulnerable customers through the new support scheme and has urged those worried about bills not to bury their heads in the sand.

Customers must meet certain criteria in order to be considered for support.

They must have a maximum of £2,000 in energy debt.

It comes as energy bills went up for million of households on October 1, bringing further cost of living pain.
