Jim Carrey is set to receive an honorary prize at the 2026 César Awards. The Truman Show actor will be presented with the Honorary César in recognition of his career achievements during the 51st César Awards, France's answer to the Oscars, in Paris in February. Announcing the honour, a spokesperson for the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, which organises the awards, called the 63-year-old comedy legend "one of the most original voices in modern cinema". They praised his "exceptional versatility" and "breadth of talent", which are showcased in his various film roles, including Dumb and Dumber, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Bruce Almighty, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Truman Show. "His work, on screen and off, reminds audiences that cinema can do more than entertain: it can challenge, move, and even enlighten; that creativity and artistry need not be contained to just one medium," the French Academy added. "His journey embodies an unrelenting boldness, constantly pushing the boundaries of performance and art." The Canada-born actor will follow in the footsteps of recent Honorary César recipients such as Julia Roberts, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Cate Blanchett and the late Robert Redford. This is not Carrey's first French honour - he was previously made a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters (Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) for his contribution to art and film in 2010. The 2026 César Awards will be held at the Olympia Theatre in Paris on 27 February.
