PAWTUCKET – A proposal from the Rhode Island Education Collective for a new dual-language charter school to serve students from Providence, Pawtucket, and Cranston is under charter review with the Rhode Island Department of Education.

Founder and CEO Victor Capellan said that the school, which will be named De La Comunidad Bilingual (Of The Bilingual Community), will be a K-12 school with a full service community model, which he said he hopes will open by September 2027 if approved.

“It will be able to provide wraparound services by creating a network of providers that support the school,” Capellan told The Breeze . “But the big idea is around increasing dual-language, or English and Spanish in this case.”
