Ben Foster says Andoni Iraola has proven he could be the perfect candidate to come in and replace Ruben Amorim as Manchester United head coach.

There was a renewed sense of optimism amongst United’s fanbase after the club spent in the region of £170million on new recruits, with Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Senne Lammens and Diego Leon all arriving through the doors this summer.

But any hope of a clean break has faded rapidly, with the Red Devils’ malaise dragging on from the end of last season after just two wins in the side’s opening seven games.

It leaves Amorim’s position in some doubt ahead of United’s return to Premier League action against high-flying Sunderland – and the Portuguese knows he will have to deliver a convincing performance to keep his critics at bay.
