CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Browns announced on Wednesday a change for Week 5, naming rookie Dillon Gabriel as the team’s starting quarterback.
Gabriel will make his first NFL start Sunday when the Browns take on the Minnesota Vikings (2-2) in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The move comes after Cleveland’s 34-10 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 4, which dropped the Browns to 1-3 on the 2025 season. Veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, who started the first four games of the season, was officially benched in favor of Gabriel.
Gabriel, who was taken by the Browns in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Oregon, had been serving as the backup quarterback since Aug. 26.
