The City Council Wednesday is expected to consider a motion to create a policy prohibiting municipal workers and sworn personnel from taking on outside employment with federal agencies that conduct immigration enforcement.
The three-panel Personnel and Hiring Committee advanced the motion to the full council for consideration Sept. 12. Council members Monica Rodriguez and Ysabel Jurado introduced the motion in August to ensure city employees “do not participate in immigration enforcement agency actions,” as it is “critical to maintaining community trust and ensuring legal compliance with city and state policies.”
If approved, the council would request City Attorney Hydee Feldstein, Chief Legislative Analyst Sharon Tso and City Administrative Officer Matt Szabo to prepare such an ordinanc
