ARTESIA, N.M. (KRQE) – The Artesia Police Department says human remains were found near train tracks in Artesia. Police say they were called to the area of 300 N. 1st Street on September 29th, after a BNSF train engineer reported discovering a portion of skeletal remains near the train tracks.
Law enforcement searched the area and discovered additional human remains behind the old Baker & Stephens Tire Company building. Police say the remains were taken to the University of New Mexico Laboratory of Human Osteology for examination. Preliminary investigation suggests the remains may have been there for over a year.
