The Oregon Department of Justice has created a new economic justice arm and a working families unit to address more consumer complaints, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield announced Sept. 30.

The department created 14 new positions and moved around others, doubling the DOJ's capacity to respond to consumer protection issues.

"Every day, people in Oregon face scams, shady car sales, predatory practices, and unfairness in the workplace,” Rayfield said in a statement. “The number of calls to our consumer hotline has doubled in the past year. Until now, our ability to act hasn’t kept up with that need."

Rayfield said the expansion is designed to protect "hardworking families, consumers, and seniors.”
