Federico Valverde has denied refusing to play for Real Madrid in the Champions League, amid rumours of a rift with Xabi Alonso.

The Uruguayan was an unused substitute as Los Blancos thrashed Kairat 5-0 in Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Ahead of the clash, Valverde addressed suggestions that he could feature at right-back, to cover for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dani Carvajal .

Spanish outlet AS had reported Alonso planned to use him in the position , which the midfielder responded to by saying he 'was not born to play right-back'.
