The Victorian country home perched along a winding river in Upstate New York looks perfectly quaint, with its herd of fainting goats and quiet, pastoral charm.

But the small Southern Tier inn is widely considered one of America’s spookiest hotels. And this year, voters have decided there is no better ghostly guesthouse in the nation.

Fainting Goat Island Inn has been named the No. 1 haunted hotel in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best .

This isn’t the first time the Nichols' inn has won top, ghoulish honors.

The Fainting Goat Inn was previously named America’s best haunted hotel by 10Best in 2023 and 2022. It also made the roundup in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024, never falling below fourth place.
