The City of Kelowna should consider whether to adopt a ward system for future municipal elections, Coun. Ron Cannan says.
At this week’s council meeting, Cannan introduced a notice of motion for municipal officials to prepare a report on the possibility of switching from the current at-large system of electing councillors.
Such a report will only be commissioned if a majority of the nine councillors vote in favour of Cannan’s motion at a future council meeting.
Cannan said he didn’t necessarily favour a switch, but suggested the idea was at least worth considering. Currently, the town of Lake Country is the only municipality in B.C. that uses a ward system for municipal elections.
