JASPER, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Jasper Police say a reported hit-and-run involving a child sitting in a shopping cart never happened.
Detectives say their investigation is now closed. They reviewed surveillance video from surrounding businesses and confronted the mother in a follow-up interview shortly after the 10-month-old’s parents reported the incident. She admitted to fabricating the story, according to police.
Police say while the mother is not being charged with false reporting, they have gone through proper channels with notifying DHR.
Nothing further is being released at this time.
