LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - First responders in London are being commended for a “heroic” rescue.

Officials with the London Police Department say the London-Laurel 911 Communications Center received a call just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, reporting a house fire on East 5th Street, and that a wheelchair-bound resident was trapped in the home.

Police say emergency responders from the City of London quickly arrived on the scene.

First responders found the man in a bedroom engulfed in flames.

The team lifted the man from the flames and carried him to safety outside, where EMS personnel were waiting.

Mayor Randall Weddle commended the team in a video posted to social media.
