Sunglasses and suntan lotion were kept at the ready this September in Kelowna.

Last month was the warmest September on record in Kelowna, and by a considerable margin.

The average high temperature in Kelowna was 27.1 C, almost three degrees above the previous September record of 24.5 C, set in both 2020 and 2022.

And the average temperature - a mix of daytime highs and night-time lows - was also a record, at 19.5 C, or four degrees warmer than usual.

There were five days last month when the temperature in Kelowna rose above 30 C, when a typical September sees only one such extremely warm day. The hottest day was Sept. 2, when the temperature reached 37.1 C.
