0Man arrested in violent Connecticut Avenue robbery after woman choked and mugged

WASHINGTON, DC – A man is in custody after a woman was attacked, strangled, and robbed in a Northwest alley just before sunrise last week in a case that drew the attention of multiple federal and local agencies.

On Tuesday, September 23 at approximately 5:50 a.m., a woman was walking behind the 4200 block of Connecticut Avenue NW when a man grabbed her from behind and began choking her. Police say the woman fought back, and the suspect fled after stealing her phone.

After a weeklong investigation, 39-year-old Gregory Woods Jr. of Northwest, D.C., was arrested on Tuesday, September 30. He has been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Felony Strangulation, and Robbery.
